The Lady Helen
The Lady Helen was built in 2004 by the famous Tamar Boat Builders on the River Tamar in Cornwall.
She fished out of Penzance for many years.
Now she has been cleaned out, all the fishing gear removed, and brought up to date for carrying passengers, which included a rigorous codeing process by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) to take passengers. This included putting in seating for 10 people, making the boat virtually unsinkable, a heel test, which involves all passengers moving to one side of the boat and the boat remaining at an acceptable angle of heel.
Feel the breeze on your face…she is the only fully open slow boat currently working on the bay.
She carries the latest up to date safety gear, which includes:
10 Thermal Protection Aids.
The latest satellite navigation equipment.
Life raft for 10 persons.
2 DSC radios.
The Lady Helen is MCA coded for 10 people to operate for up to 20 miles out to sea from a safe haven, so she is well suited to the calm waters of Cardiff Bay.
